Inclusivity and SEND
Every child deserves the opportunity to play in our magical role-play village. Accessibility is at the forefront of everything we do. We have done everything we can to make Discovery Village as accessible to as many children as possible.
Discovery Village has flat level access from our car park and our large double entrance doors. In addition, all of our facilities are on one level and we have a large accessibile toilet with support handrails and emergency alarm.
Built with accessibility in mind, the entrances to each of our play areas are wide enough to facilitate wheelchairs. The heights of the play benches, work tops and counters inside our play areas are accessible to everyone.
Calm & nurturing
Soothing colour schemes create a relaxing atmosphere meaning our little visitors can explore comfortably. Firstly colour plays an important role in the design of Discovery Village and secondly colour positively affects your child’s mood. We avoid using bold, primary colours and gender stereotypes to aid your child’s emotional wellbeing whilst enhancing their productivity, learning and behaviour.
Play at your pace
Although our play sessions are structured, our fabulous team understands that everyone needs are individual. Some little villages, specifically those with accessibility challenges and SEND may want to explore our indoor play areas at their own pace specifically at the beginning of their visit. On the other hand we know that other children are going to be far too busy playing to want to get involved. There is no right or wrong way to enjoy Discovery Village.
Accessible play
Inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. All of our role play spaces have been designed with accessibility in mind. Entrances to each shop and service within Discovery Village are over 1 meter wide and layouts within the play spaces allow for wheelchair users and those with mobility aids to navigate freely. All of our role play shops have flat level access and counters, tables, props and toys are positioned at height that are accessible to all.
Help us to help you
Children with additional needs and accessibility challenges are welcomed to Discovery Village with open arms. Life can sometimes be a struggle particularly for those with additional needs. We don’t want their time with us to be. We welcome ideas and feedback on how to make our village even more accessible.
