Captain Compass is no ordinary pirate. After refusing to steal treasure, our kind-hearted captain was cast away by the rest of the crew and left stranded at Discovery Village. But when the pirate ship is caught in a terrible storm and its treasure is scattered far and wide, Captain Compass may be the only person who can help put things right.
With the keys to the treasure chest safely in hand, Captain Compass needs a brave new crew to solve the clues, recover the missing treasure and complete the quest. Could your little one help save the day?
Follow the Smugglers’ Trail
During this two-hour performer-led play session, children can choose to join Captain Compass for songs, dancing, games and pirate challenges inspired by the smugglers of Dorset’s past.
Young adventurers will work together to rebuild a giant treasure map before following the Smugglers’ Trail through our nine role play areas. Hidden around the village are mysterious sacks containing unusual cargo, including tea, spices, cocoa, coffee beans, lace, silk ribbon and other treasures once carried across the seas.
Children will use their senses to investigate what is hidden inside each sack, work as a team and help Captain Compass unlock the treasure chest.
All story activities are completely optional. Children can join in as much or as little as they feel comfortable with while enjoying plenty of time for independent, imaginative and screen-free play.
